Mae Ping restaurant Wimbledon
Wonderful food (though some of it's a bit hot for me), attentive staff, you pay a bit over the odds but it's been worth it. Sunday buffet, excellent idea to get bodies in, everything cooked fresh, gorgeous. Until two weeks ago. Restaurant completely empty bar the two of us. Had lovely starters, then a salad and wanted to think about the rest. Asked to order ... again ... and again ... and again ... and again. They fussed around our sole occupied table pushing menus in front of us, moving things around, until we were very angry and they were also annoyed with us, although we couldn't understand why. Spoilt the entire day. We complained and were told the policy had altered from what it says on the menu, "Take your time the way the Thais do", to, order your food within 90 minutes because then you can't unless you want desert, nothing else. What a shame. It used to be worth spending time and money and money in, but to be harassed and rushed like that, frankly, it's no longer worth it to us. Food no doubt still splendid, but be warned, on a Sunday it is no longer true that you will be able to take your time because if you do, even in an empty restaurant, you'll be sorry.
