Conference on Wimbledon's future
The recent conference on the future of Wimbledon was clearly only organised for the benefit of people hoping to make money/votes out of the town, and not for local residents. I was very disappointed that it wasn't open to local people to hear the ideas from people like Richard Rogers, and offer their own views. Poor Wimbledon seems to be exploited for the making of money and not for the benefit of the people who live here. We have already seen the Village become a retail outlet for expensive clothes and eateries, and lose it's village atmosphere. The Town centre has no independent shops left, and now more plans are being discussed without any input from residents. In the '80s there was a local people's Plan for the development of Wimbledon, which was very popular, but ignored in favour of office and shop building. Will we be ignored again?
