Reception To Be Held for Southfields Grid Alliance Volunteers

Fleur Anderson MP to attend event at the Old Fields pub

A reception is to be held for more than 60 volunteers of the Southfields Grid Alliance to say thank you for the work they have done during the pandemic.

The Southfields Grid Residents Association (SGRA) is hosting the event in the rear area of the ‘Old Fields’ pub on Replingham Road, from 11-12.30pm on Saturday 24 July. Fleur Anderson MP is expected to attend and say a few words.

The Southfields Grid Alliance was formed in mid-March 2020 by local groups the SGRA, St Barnabas church and the Grid Mummies network.

The volunteers did a huge amount of work over the last 15 months assisting local people during the pandemic, delivering groceries, taking dogs for walks, collecting prescriptions, even just ringing someone for a friendly chat.

Charles Runcie, Chair of the SGRA said, “It made our Grid community even more special through the rather odd times of 2020 and early 2021. One member, Becky Bailey, was its coordinator 24/7 from day one, staffing the phone number and allocating tasks via a WhatsApp group, even having the time to have a baby! Now the easing of Government regulations from Monday July 19th means we’ve decided to wind down the Grid Alliance's activity, bringing a formal end to its work. “

This site remains committed to providing local community news and public interest journalism.

Articles such as the one above are integral to what we do. We aim to feature as much as possible on local societies, charities based in the area, fundraising efforts by residents, community-based initiatives and even helping people find missing pets.
