Three Days of Cancellations on South West Trains

Derailment puts another platform at Waterloo out of operation

Disruption on South West Trains continued for a third day this Thursday (17 August) after the company’s engineers were unable to complete repairs to a platform at Waterloo station overnight.

This meant that Platform 13, where the derailment of a train took place on Tuesday remained out of operation resulting in a continued cancellations on suburban services including the Hounslow Loop. The disruption continued through the day.

Services wre delayed by up to 15 minutes, cancelled, or terminated short of their destination as a result.

The work to bring the platform back into use will took place overnight on Thursday 17 August. These issues are in addition to the planned upgrade works which mean that platforms 1 to 10 are unavailable.

The situation on Thursday represents an improvement from Tuesday in the immediate aftermath of the derailment when South West Trains advised passengers not to use the service. On Wednesday the advice was merely to 'consider alternative'.

Earlier in the week queueing systems had to be introduced at stations including Wimbledon, Putney and Wandsworth Town due to the number of passengers crowding into those stations.
