Transport for London is warning Londoners to avoid unnecessary travel on public transport this week on days affected by strike action on trains, tubes and buses.

An RMT strike on national rail services on Thursday 18 August will impact some London Underground, London Overground and Elizabeth line services due to signallers taking part in the industrial action. The majority of TfL’s services will continue to run, however some disruption is expected. Services running are expected to be busy and may not be able to stop at all stations.

Most South Western Railway services will be cancelled other than a 4 train an hour service on the Hounslow Loop. Great Western Rail services will also be disrupted.

On the District line there will be no service between Wimbledon and Parson's Green, and Richmond and Turnham Green before 8am and after 6pm.

There will be a reduced service on London Overground between 8am and 6pm, with no service outside of these times and no service at all on some sections of the network throughout the day.

The central section of the Elizabeth line will run a reduced train service after 6pm.

There is the potential for further disruption due to the strike impacting London Underground staff availability.

On Friday 19 August, there is a perfect storm of strikes with the tube and London Overground largely out of action and buses drivers walking out on London United services which will affect routes in west and north west London. There will also be no Night Tube or Night Overground service from Friday evening. Disruption on the tube will continue into the following morning and TfL is advising passengers to avoid travelling before 8am on Saturday 20 August. On affected routes, there will be no Night Bus service on Friday 19 August and Saturday 20 August.

The bus strike will impact the following routes: 18, 33, 49, 65, 70, 71, 72, 85, 94, 105, 110, 111, 116, 117, 148, 203, 211, 216, 220, 223, 224, 235, 258, 265, 266, 272, 281, 283, 290, 293, 371, 404, 406, 411, 418, 419, 423, 440, 465, 467, 470, 481, C1, E1, E3, H17, H22, H32, H37, H91, H98, K1, K2, K3, K4, K5, N9, N18, N33, N65, N72, N266 and S3.

The bus strike continues and the RMT strike on national rail services resumes on Saturday 20 August and once again this will affect London Underground, London Overground and the Elizabeth line including no services on the District line between Wimbledon and Parson's Green, and Richmond and Turnham Green before 8am and after 6pm.

Similarly to Thursday, national rail strikes on Saturday 20 August will impact TfL services due to shared track and assets. Services running are expected to be very busy and may not be able to stop at all stations. There will be a reduced service on London Overground between 8am and 6pm and no Night Overground service.

South Western Railway will resume the four trains an hour service on the Hounslow Loop and most Great Western Rail services will not be running.

Disruption from the national rail and London bus strikes will continue to impact services in the morning on Sunday 21 August. From 8am, services will resume on bus routes impacted in west and north west London. Elizabeth line and Overground services will start later than usual, so passengers are encouraged to avoid making journeys on affected services until after 8am.

There will also be no service on the Hounslow Loop until Tuesday 16 August, due to Network Rail undertaking a signalling upgrade. This will affect stations including Chiswick, Brentford, Kew Bridge, Isleworth and Syon Lane. A bus replacement service will be provided according to Network Rail.

Andy Lord, TfL's Chief Operating Officer, said, “I would like to apologise to our customers who will have their journeys impacted by these strikes. We’re urging people to avoid travelling on the Tube and only travel if essential on the rest of the network on 19 August, and to ensure they check before they travel from 18-21 August. If customers are travelling they should plan ahead and expect disruption across the network. Walking and cycling is likely to be the best way to get around during this action.

“We're urging the RMT and Unite to call off these strikes – my message to them is that it's not too late to work with us, Arriva Rail London and RATP to find a resolution and avoid the huge disruption this action will cause.”
