The fire was quickly extinguished but it has caused widespread disruption to SWR service, and the operator says it expects disruption to continue until "the end of the day" .

Commuters have tweeted that platforms 1 to 9 are out of use. SWR are advising passengers not to travel on its services.

Network Rail said the cable fire, which has caused damage to trackside equipment, was under investigation and that it was working hard to reopen the platforms and return service to normal as soon as possible.
