Mosaic Jewish Primary School Celebrates Its First Year

Children receive commemorative badge

An excited audience was thrilled by a delightful performance of ‘Giraffes Can’t Dance’ followed by every pupil presenting what they were proud of learning and achieving this year. A multi-media presentation showed the variety of experiences the children have had and the pride on their faces as they showed what they had done or made. Their thirst for learning beamed out.

The children received certificates from Head teacher Kate Baum. A special book chosen for each individual had a light-hearted prediction of their future careers, for example an architect, fashion designer, famous author, outstanding teacher, sports car designer. The children loved this.

Chair of Governors, Shirley Lee presented all the children and their parents with a specially designed commemorative badge for the Class of 2013 – the very first Reception class at MJPS. During the presentation Shirley Lee commented:
“Thank you everyone for joining us on this incredible journey ‘growing’ a new school. It has been a real privilege with significant challenges and we look forward to everyone’s ongoing support.”

MJPS was established by a group of parents, teachers and community members living in the vibrant and diverse community of South London. MJPS is a new model of faith school with 50% of children local to the school and 50% of children of the Jewish faith from across the community. Support for the school comes from across the faith communities of South London. This is reflected in the diversity of the faiths represented in the graduating Reception class and those children joining the school in September 2014.

As planned the school will remain in temporary accommodation for a further year before transferring to a permanent site on nearby Roehampton Lane in September 2015. When it will become a two-form entry primary school growing gradually each year until 2019.

MJPS has been established in response to a growing demand for extra school places in the area and the desire of many young families to have the option of a Jewish education for their children.
