Barnes Children’s Literature Festival – May 2016

Confirmed attendees include Jacqueline Wilson, Axel Scheffler, and Morris Gleitzman

The Barnes Children’s Literature Festival has just revealed the programme for this year, bringing some of the best children’s authors and illustrators to Barnes Pond in south west London for a packed weekend of events on 14th & 15th May 2016.

Following the success of the 2015 Festival, this year the programme will double in size to offer nearly 50 events for ages from two to teen and beyond, making it London’s largest dedicated children’s book festival.

The 2016 programme includes Frances Hardinge, overall winner of the prestigious Costa Book Award for The Lie Tree, Jaqueline Wilson, Robin Stevens, Jeremy Strong, Philip Reeve, Anthony Browne and Axel Scheffler, returning by popular demand.

Highlights include Morris Gleitzman and Cornelia Funke, both visiting the UK especially for the Barnes Festival, and two YA panels which bring together some of the best contemporary writers for teens and young adults, including Lisa Williamson, Holly Bourne, Clare Furniss and Samantha Shannon.

Younger readers won’t want to miss Lauren Child, creator of Charlie and Lola, CBeebies’ Cerrie Burnell with her Harper series, and bestselling author Holly Webb with her sequel to children’s classic The Secret Garden.

For a more theatrical experience, there will be Roald Dahl & the Imagination Seekers, a new interactive show which explores Dahl's extraordinary stories including Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and The BFG, or the Horrible Scientists Nick Arnold and Tony de Saulle in their hilarious event.

The full programme can be viewed at www.barneskidslitfest.org and tickets are on sale now.
