PLOS brings One Man, Two Guvnors to Wandsworth this August
One Man, Two Guvnors, the hit West End comedy which originally starred James Corden as a hapless Essex chancer coping with the demands of two bosses, receives its amateur premiere this August in Earlsfield, thanks to Putney Light Operatic Society (PLOS).
Set in 1960’s Brighton, an easily confused and always hungry Francis Henshall (Mark Smith) becomes separately employed by local gangster Roscoe Crabbe, and upper class criminal Stanley Stubbers (Alex Johnson). But Roscoe is secretly his twin sister Rachel (Hannah Pratt) posing as her dead brother, who has been killed by her boyfriend, who is none other than one Stanley Stubbers. To prevent Francis from being discovered, and his masters finding out he is working for someone else, he must keep his two guvnors apart. Amongst this chaos is Pauline Clench (Sally Lewis), who was set to marry Roscoe, but who is hopelessly in love with the wannabe actor Alan Dangle (Paul Dagley), and a host of other characters who flesh out this unforgettably hilarious show. It’s all pretty straightforward, really.
This will be the first time One Man, Two Guvnors has been performed in the area since it ended its successful West End run.

“As our theatre company has grown and attracted new members from all backgrounds, we’ve wanted to explore different types of performance, and in particular plays. Both our members and our supporters are keen for us to add to our repertoire of musicals, concerts and traditional family pantomime and when the opportunity to perform One Man, Two Guvnors came along, we knew this was our chance. We couldn’t miss out on the opportunity to bring this wonderful play to local audiences for the first time, and we’re thrilled that we’ve been chosen as the first society in the area to perform it. It’s a real vote of confidence in our abilities.”
The play marks a directorial debut for Liam Walls, who recently won plaudits for his performance as Dame Patti Cakes in the society’s popular Christmas pantomime, Puss in Boots. Liam is joined by Assistant Director and Producer Kimberley MacFarlane, a dramatic arts graduate from Roehampton University, who is beginning her professional career in theatre production.

“We are really excited to be bringing this hilarious play to the stage, and we’ve assembled an exceedingly talented cast to bring it to life. If the performances are even half as much fun as we’ve been having in rehearsals then the audience is in for a real treat.”
Inspired by Carlo Goldoni’s 18th Century classic comedy ‘A servant of two masters,’ this play is filled with a mix of physical comedy, flamboyant characters, incredible one-liners, satire and live music making it the ultimate celebration of British Comedy.
