Hospice Launches New Family Walk And Fun Day

Royal Trinity Hospice has announced a brand new family event for September 2018

The event will bring friends and families to together in support of their local hospice, which provides free end of life care to people across central and south west London.

Taking place on Sunday 30 September, Trinity’s Family Walk and Fun Day builds on the success of its Magnolia Walk event which has taken place for the last five years. New for 2018 is a fete-style Family Day in Trinity’s award-winning gardens, with heaps of fun for all the family to enjoy.

The event will include a sponsored walk with a choice of two, five or eight mile loops around Trinity’s local area followed a BBQ, village fete-style stalls, live entertainment and music in the hospice’s beautiful two-acre gardens.

Based on the edge of Clapham Common, Trinity is the oldest hospice in the UK and provides free compassionate end of life care to over 2,300 patients every year and their families. It costs over £13 million each year to deliver the hospice’s services, only one quarter of which is covered by NHS income. Funds raised from events like Trinity’s Family Walk and Fun Day play a crucial role in allowing the hospice to continue providing free, expert care.

Head of Fundraising at Trinity, Ben Ansell, said: “Everyone at Trinity is so excited about the Family Walk and Fun Day. We’ve got so many great activities in store for everyone and can’t wait to welcome people. We’re always blown away by the support shown to Trinity by our generous community and would love people to get behind and support this new family event. Please sign-up, help us spread the word and join us on 30 September.

“It’s going to be a great day out, will raise much needed funds and will help support the vital care our nurses and support teams deliver day in day out. See you there!”

Susan Macdonald’s mother, Margaret Kaye, was cared for by Trinity in 2017. She and her family took part in Trinity’s Magnolia walk event last year: “It was such a nice day walking with my friends and dogs through the loveliest greenest parts of south London and celebrating my mum’s life. The food was really delicious (the dogs enjoyed the sausages too!) and I loved being back in the Trinity garden.

“I am so very grateful that Mum was able to stay at Trinity. The whole family stayed with her, and all the staff and volunteers were truly amazing in supporting us to spend valuable time together. I encourage the local community to get together for the Family Walk and Fun Day and raise vital funds so that Trinity can continue to provide help to families like mine when it’s needed most.”
