Sample The Ales At The Wandsworth Beer Festival

Halloween event promises some drink surprises

More than 100 beers will be on tap for sampling at the forthcoming Wandsworth Halloween Beer Festival, housed in the historic Le Gothique building.

The event, which takes place from Wednesday October 24- Saturday October 27, is now a regular event hosted by Le Gothique.

There will also be 25 ciders available as well 20 wines. There will be live entertainment on the Friday and Saturday evenings.

Featured breweries include Ballards, Dark Star, Brew Dog, Sarah Hughes, the Botanist in Kew and Shepherd Neame. It will also feature Le Gothique's first beer which is a collaboration with Shepherd Neame. A 6 hop, 6 malt, 6% brew called "Gothic 666".

Fullers are supplying some experimental brews direct from the Chiswick Brewery. "Brew No.2" is a beer aged for two years in old cognac oak casks.

The building itself - the Grade II-listed Royal Victoria Patriotic Building, off Windmill Road - provides a splendid setting and drinkers can reflect on its history, which includes its uses as an orphanage and a hospital. It's most famed for housing 20,000 refugees during the World War II, with Rudolph Hess being held in the cellars for several days.

Wandsworth Beer Festival costs £4 to enter (£3 for CAMRA members). Its Wednesday preview night opens from 6pm-11pm, then it's 1pm-11pm on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
