Space Crew Volunteers Needed For Merton Reading Challenge

Libraries are calling for enthusiastic help with national summer reading challenge

’Space hop’ is the theme for this year’s challenge  which takes place across the borough from July 17, and organisers are looking for a new "space crew" to help encourage children's interest in reading.

They are appealing for volunteers aged 14 and over who will  register children on the challenge, help them find and choose books, access the Space Hop website and encourage them on their space adventures. They will also assist in the promotion of the challenge and event planning.

The summer reading challenge aims to peak children’s interest in reading through a fun and achievable challenge of reading six books over the summer holidays to win prizes, bookmarks and stickers. Nearly 3,000 Merton childen signed up last year.

Candidates do not need previous experience working with children but should be reliable, confident and responsible, with the enthusiasm to make the challenge fun and exciting. Successful candidates will be CRB checked and will take part in training.
