Merton Civic Awards for 2013 are launched
The Merton Civic Awards 2013 have just been launched. The awards celebrate the excellent work done by individuals, groups and businesses across the borough.
The categories include Young Persons Outstanding Achievement Award, Volunteer Award, Community Award, Carer Award, Teacher Award, Sporting Achievement Award, Arts & Entertainment Award, Business Award and Act of Courage.
Nominations from the public on these nine separate categories will be collected between now and February next year, with a shortlist created of the most worthy candidates. Merton Chamber members Wimbledon Studios will be hosting the award ceremony in April 2013.
Merton Chamber of Commerce, along with its voluntary and community sector partners - Merton Voluntary Service Council, Volunteer Centre Merton and Merton Unity Network - is sponsoring the Business Award which will acknowledge and celebrate those private sector businesses that are supporting our Community.
Diana Sterck, Chief Executive at Merton Chamber of Commerce, said: "I'm aware that there are lots of businesses in Merton that are, even in these austere times, making incredible contributions to our Community. They give their time, their skills, their knowledge and their money to support local projects and good causes.
"Many of these businesses are unsung as are the causes they support. This Award gives us the opportunity to acknowledge and applaud these businesses and raise awareness of the fabulous work being carried out by Merton's voluntary and community organisations."
