Special celebration to mark 100th birthday
Several shops in Wimbledon Park's Arthur Road are celebrating their centenary this year, and to mark the occasion a special celebration is taking place.
The "Arthur Road Shops Centenary Celebrations" takes place on Saturday July 17, from 12 noon to 3pm.
The following shops are 100 years old this year:
The event in Arthur Road includes a prize quiz for children, with questions about each shop, and an exhibition stand covering the history of the shops.
There will also be a home produce stall in the front of the Church of Christ the King, and children will be swapping their own toys in the doorways of some empty shops.
Residents Douglas and Ute Dallimer, who have lived in the area for 45 years, have organised the event to increase awareness of the local shops.
