Second FoodFest for Wimbledon Town Centre

Local firms to showcase their produce at popular event

Wimbledon will be holding its second FoodFest for 2010 on the Piazza from July 14-18 when up to 25 stalls will showcase their products.

The last Wimbledon FoodFest 2010 in March brought together local producers, restaurants and suppliers, to celebrate all the cuisines and specialities that the area has to offer.

Local food-related businesses were selling food and produce from breads and cakes to healthy eating recipes, herbs and spices.

It was so popular that Wimbledon Town Centre Manager, Tracy Francis, said the public and traders were asking for another FoodFest this year.

"We hadn't scheduled another Foodfest for this year as it was to be an annual event which debuted in March," she said, "but it was so popular with the public and the traders that everyone was asking when we would hold another one."  As a result of that demand, and taking on board they wanted it for longer and over a weekend, the dates are set for July 14-18.

It is being staged as part of the Wimbledon Going for Gold campaign, which is aiming to raise the profile of the town before the London Olympics in 2012.
