Pub Reverts To Historic Royal Name

Re-named Prince of Wales plans beer festival

The Princess of Wales pub on Morden Road, near South Wimbledon, has just reverted to its original name of the Prince of Wales.

It was one of two pubs called The Prince of Wales which were re-named by the Young's Brewery after the death of Princess Diana in 1997.

But the re-naming had always courted mixed reactions and now the new managers of the 19th century pub have decided the moment is right to restore the original name.

The rechristened pub will be hosting a beer festival from Friday July 2 - Sunday July 4 to coincide with the finals weekend at the Wimbledon Tennis Championships. It promises ten real ales as well as live entertainment including bands, solo artists and open mic.
