Wimbledon Residents Asked To Join Spending Review

"Get involved in the Spending Challenge", says MP

Wimbledon MP Stephen Hammond is urging local residents to get involved in the Government’s new “Spending Challenge” initiative.

The Tory MP said: "As part of the Spending Review the Government is setting up a public engagement process – the Spending Challenge – both to build public understanding of the difficult decisions that we are having to take and to generate ideas as to how savings can be realised.

"I want as many people as possible in Wimbledon to get involved in this process and the Government will scrutinise every suggestion put forward."

The Spending Challenge's first phase is a Government-wide engagement programme through which the country’s 6 million public sector workers are being asked to share their ideas on how to save money and deliver more for less.

Mr Hammond (left) said: "Thousands of people have already responded to the first stage, and every serious idea is being considered. I'm urging people to think about how we can deliver more for less."

The Spending Challenge's second phase will involve a wider public consultation.
