Cannizaro House Venue For Haiti Art Auction

Charity event will help lives in Haiti

A recent charity art auction in aid of communities affected by the earthquake in Haiti raised more than £3,000.

The auction included work donated by some local artists, such as "A Long Way From Home 1 and 2" by Susan Mensah, who lives in Wimbledon.

The event included jazz music from Emilia and Marina Martensson, and the Mayor of Merton, Oonagh Moulton, also attended.

All the proceeds from the event, which was organised by Christian Aid and Cannizaro House on Wimbledon Common, will go towards funds being raised to help rebuild communities in Haiti.

Organisers say the money raised could provide items including:

  • A dozen families with shelter (approx 6m x 5m)
  • Two community kitchens and all the items necessary including large stoves and cooking equipment, from pots and pans to utensils. This is vital for people in makeshift camps who have no means of feeding their families.
  • School fees, uniform and books for over 30 children to return to school
  • Over 200 hygiene kits for people living with HIV, helping them to remain healthy, even in the midst of a disaster.
