Met Police hands out its first ever CCTV awards
The CCTV team which keeps an eye on Merton is today (March 20) being awarded a certificate of appreciation by the Metropolitan Police for the help they provide in keeping the borough safe.
Four members of the Merton Council team will receive a certificate of appreciation at the first ever Metropolitan Police CCTV Awards taking place at New Scotland Yard.
Working in partnership with the police, the CCTV team at Merton have played a key role in identifying suspects involved in crimes including robbery and aggravated burglary, leading to convictions. As well helping to catch people committing crimes, the team has also helped police locate a missing 15-year old girl.
Merton’s cabinet member for community, safety, engagement and equalities, Councillor Edith Macauley said: "These awards are a great way to acknowledge the hard work which goes on 24 hours a day, seven days a week in the council’s CCTV control room.
"Merton is one of the safest places to live in London and our dedicated CCTV team play an important role helping police investigations by being the eyes of the borough. Through working in partnership, residents can be reassured that criminals will be brought to justice."
