Join In World Basketball Record Attempt!

Wimbledon takes part in the challenge

YMCAs from across the world will be taking part in The YMCA World Challenge, 'Hoops Springs'; a world record attempt that will see 5 million people shooting basketballs at the same time.

And YMCA London South West are inviting the local community to be part of it in Wimbledon on Saturday October 13.

The charity will have basketball hoops set up in Wimbledon Town Centre Piazza and at YMCA Wimbledon, as part of a Community Games Fun Day, which will include team basketball games, childrens arts and crafts, fitness class taster sessions and plenty more.

The worldwide event starts 8h00, local time in New Zealand, and ends in Hawaii 00h00 following the time zone progression. Various communities and cultures will be connected by live broadcasting and other forms of social media during the day.

Invented in the YMCA in 1890, basketball is one of the most popular sports in the world and it has been used as a tool to empower people and promote a healthy life style.
