Merton residents save an average of £106
Merton residents who signed up for the latest round of the Big London Energy Switch could save an annual average of £106 following an auction between energy companies.
Residents who signed up for this round of the scheme will soon get their personal offer letters or emails letting them know if they'll be saving against their current energy deal – and if so how much money will be going back into their pocket. The deadline to accept the offer is Monday 13 January 2014.
The latest Big London Energy Switch auction took place on 19 November with a total of 340 households in Merton registering for the scheme which could help them to save on their energy bills if they choose to switch. The highest average saving was for dual fuel online customers who stand to save on average £220 per year.
The Big London Energy Switch helps people find cheaper electricity and gas options by collectively negotiating a better deal with energy providers. A large group of people willing to change suppliers means that they have more bargaining power to negotiate the best possible deal with energy firms. There is no obligation for people to accept their personal offer, but if they do it's easy and straightforward and the new provider will take care of the whole process.
Merton Council’s cabinet member for environmental sustainability and regeneration, Councillor Andrew Judge, said: "This scheme is a great way to help our residents keep their homes warm at a lower price when energy bills are on the rise, particularly coming into the winter months. I would encourage everyone that’s signed up to keep an eye out for their offer and see what savings they could make."
The next auction will take place in February 2014. People can register their interest by visiting the Big London Energy Switch website and leaving their contact details.
