Bike Stunt Team Wow Wimbledon Pupils

Visit is reward for youngsters

Youngsters at a Wimbledon primary school enjoyed a visit from mountain bike stunt team Making a Difference (MAD).

The team performed deft manoeuvres in front of an audience of pupils and teachers at Pelham Primary School in Southey Road.

The visit from the MAD team was a reward for Pelham finishing the highest-placed London school in the Big Pedal virtual cycle race in March.

Schools across the country recorded how many journeys were made to school on bikes recording the date on cycle charity Sustran’s website.

Over 100 schools in London made 109,802 journeys by bike to school and back, over three weeks in March as part of a national cycle race called the Big Pedal, which saw over 800 schools across the UK compete to be the fastest.

Cabinet member for education, councillor Peter Walker, who was at the display, said: "The pupils of Pelham take cycling very seriously. This show was a just reward for their enthusiasm and attitude towards cycling. I'm delighted Pelham were the highest placed London school in the south east region of the Big Pedal."
