Merton's Disabled Residents Warned About Phony Blue Badge Website

Blue badges are free to qualifying residents

Disabled people in Merton are being warned to be extra vigilant over a phony website which charges for their Blue Badge applications.

Blue Badges are available to disabled residents to allow concessionary parking and can be applied for by filling out an online form. There is no charge.

However, ‘Blue Badge Online’ requests that applicants provide details of their disability, proof of identification – including address, and a £49.50 payment. Merton Council, alongside all other London authorities is warning residents to stay away from this website.

Merton Council Cabinet Member for community safety, engagement and equalities, Councillor Edith Macauley, said: “Residents should not have to pay this extortionate price when applying for a Blue Badge is free. I am urging all residents to stay away from Blue Badge Online and not to become a victim of this con. The safest route for residents that require a blue badge is to get in contact with the council directly”.

To apply for a Blue Badge via Merton Council visit http://www.merton.gov.uk/transport-streets/parking/bluebadge.htm or call 020 8274 4990.
