Police issue seasonal advice
Police are warning Merton residents to be wary of bogus refuse collectors trying to collect Christmas tips.
They have issued advice that Merton Borough Council does not allow its refuse collectors to knock on doors asking for seasonal tips.
A spokesman said: "Any person knocking on your door, purporting to be so employed, and asking for a Christmas tip is bogus.
"Such instances should be reported to police, where possible at the time or as soon as possible after the event, and providing a description of the individual concerned and the road in which the incident occurred.
"This does of course not prevent you from providing a tip to your legitimate refuse collection team should you feel so inclined."
