Fears For The Future Of Joseph Hood School

Campaigners worry about the effect of adult education cuts

A petition has been launched over fears for the future of Joseph Hood Primary School in Wimbledon Chase.

The neighbouring Merton Adult Education (MAE) site in Whatley Avenue is under threat with council plans to outsource the MAE service to help save £32m in the next four years.

The petition, which has been signed by 400 people, states there are fears about the outcome of selling off the MAE site to a commercial bidder.

It says the option to sell off the Whatley Avenue site has been made without any regard to the 300 people attending neighbouring Joseph Hood school.

Campaigners fear the site could be earmarked for a new secondary school, but it would also need the Joseph Hood site to be large enough.
