Help Celebrate Age In Merton

Sponsorship plea for annual event

Celebrating Age - Merton's Festival for the over-50s - is calling on local businesses to get involved and sponsor this year's autumn event.

Local businesses now have the opportunity to sponsor the month-long celebration of opportunities available to Merton's 40,000 residents who are over 50.  Sponsors will be able to see their brand as part of a trusted, well-loved community event.

Now in its 11th year, Celebrating Age brings together around 100 voluntary, statutory and commercial organisations to run a month of dynamic activities throughout September. Last year's Festival comprised more than 150 events across the borough and was attended by 5,000 people.

Festival organiser, Sue Tickner said: "Celebrating Age showcases all that's available to older people in and around Merton, providing a month of activities which can form the basis for a whole year of social life."

Cabinet member for adult social care and health, Councillor Linda Kirby said: "Celebrating Age is an important programme for our over 50s in Merton, which is why we have agreed to fund it for a further three years. We hope that through the help of local businesses, we will be able to make this year's celebration bigger and better than ever."

Businesses interested in sponsoring Celebrating Age should contact: Sue Tickner on sue@ageukmerton.org.uk or telephone 020 8648 5792.
