Are You A Wimbledon Landlord?

Charity looks for local accommodation

A South-West London-based charity is looking for landlords with one-bedroom flats, houses or studios to rent in Wimbledon.

SPEAR, a charity which supports people who have experienced homelessness to access accommodation, wants to work with local landlords.

Founded by members of the community in Richmond, SPEAR opened its night shelter in 1987 to help rough sleepers in the borough have a temporary place to stay for the night.

Since then, the charity has expanded to provide services including street outreach services, emergency accommodation for rough sleepers, tenancy finding facilities, a service providing support to veterans of the British Armed Forces and projects working specifically with young people.

It has recently received funding for a new programme that is helping to tackle homelessness within the boroughs of Richmond, Sutton, Merton and Wandsworth. The service aims to resettle people into private rented accommodation in South-West London.

The team at SPEAR are currently looking for landlords with properties in the areas with rental prices that are set within the Local Housing Allowance. Landlords enjoy several benefits, including no fees or commission are charged for this service and rent paid direct.

SPEAR says it only places people that have been thoroughly assessed and found suitable and will provide ongoing support to property owners and individuals placed in the property for the first year of the tenancy.

If you own a suitable property and would be interested in getting involved in the project, email resettlement@spearlondon.org or call 020 7036 9765. To find out more, see the SPEAR website.
