Rubbish and recycling collections for Merton residents will be slightly different over Christmas and New Year.
The first collection that is different from the norm will take place on Saturday 19 December for residents whose normal collection day is Monday, with further changes thereafter. Normal collections will resume from Monday 4 January.
The council’s garden waste collection service will be on a break from Monday 21 December to Friday 15 January. The household reuse and recycling centre in Garth Road, Morden, will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. You can now recycle plastic and metal packaging as well as cartons. For a full list of acceptable items, visit www.merton.gov.uk/acceptable
A free Christmas tree collection service starts on Monday 11 January until Sunday 24 January. Residents wanting to use the service must put their tree out by Sunday 10 January to ensure it will be collected during the two week period. Any trees put out after 10 January may not be collected.
Merton’s cabinet member for environmental cleanliness and parking, Councillor Judy Saunders, said: "Christmas is a busy time for residents and with lots of family coming over to eat, missing a waste collection day can make life tricky. This is why we are encouraging everyone to check when their new collection days are and to make sure they put their rubbish and recycling out at the right time."
