Global Music Day In Colliers Wood


International sounds in the community centre

An International Music Event will be held at the Colliers Wood Community Centre in the High Street on Saturday February 26.

The free afternoon event follows a succesful day of international dance performances and workshops, which attracted more than 250 people on Saturday January 29.

Full details are as follows:

2 pm - Doors open. FREE entrance to the International Music Workshops. The International Cafe will be open with drinks and snacks from around the world.
2.30pm-3.30pm - Voice workshop with Christopher Killerby - UPSTAIRS
2.30pm-3.30pm -  African Drumming with Sebastian  Ahorlu for children - DOWNSTAIRS
3.30pm-4.30pm -  Ukelele workshop with Derek Lomas - UPSTAIRS
3.30pm-4pm - Sing a round for children and parents with Antonia Daglish - DOWNSTAIRS
4.30pm-5.30pm - African drumming with Sebastian Ahorlu for adults - UPSTAIRS
4pm-5.30pm - World Music Cafe with music from Africa, China, Ireland, Spain and Germany.  

From 2.30pm-5.30pm there will be a FREE arts and craft workshop inspired by the music, musicians and instruments for people of all ages and abilities. This will be led by the artist Ursula
Kelly from ACAVA and is funded by Merton Arts Development.

There's also an evening International Music Night, from 7pm, including groups such as the Nostalgia Steel Band, the Colliers Wood Chorus, 'Stars of Africa' Song and Dance, the Colliers Wood Ukelel Orchestra and the Oasis Church Gospel Singers. The community centre is also the venue for an International Food Day on Saturday March 26.
