Wimbledon businessman gets more recognition for community work

Paul Strank, of Paul Strank Roofing, is one of ten London winners of a Halifax Giving Extra Award for his local community work.

Paul, whose business is in Weir Road, Wimbledon, will now be put forward to the regional awards. Winning this would earn £5,000 for his nominated charity, Shooting Star Chase.

His nomination says: "His fundraising focuses on children’s charities, and over 32 years he has raised more than £2m, but he also supports other great causes like Age Concern Merton and Silver Surfers - a project aimed at giving computing skills to the elderly.

"Other causes he’s supported include being a Corporate Partner of Children in Need, fundraising for Shooting Star Chase Children’s Hospice; sponsoring local footy team AFC Wimbledon as well as kid’s teams such as Worcester Park Colts. In the last three years, he has raised around £388,000 for local charities and causes, not including money spent in kind".
