Police Continue Hunt For Wimbledon Common Robber
Officers speak to park users in appeal for information
Police continue to appeal for witnesses and information a week after a woman was robbed on Wimbledon Common.
Officers were at the Common throughout today (August 19) conducting patrols, speaking to park users and handing out leaflets to assist in appeals.
During the incident a woman - who is a regular dog walker at the Common - was robbed of her jewellery.
Between 1pm and 1.45pm on Wednesday August 12, the victim, who is aged in her 40s, had been walking her dog at the wooded area near the centre of the Common, when she was approached from behind by the suspect.
The victim was bending down, when the suspect put a plastic carrier bag over her head; he then demanded her jewellery before pushing her down to her knees. In fear, the victim handed over her jewellery and mobile phone, before the suspect pushed her over. He then fled from the scene.
During the attack, which lasted just over a minute, the victim did not see the suspect who remained behind her throughout.
Afterwards, the woman went home and called 999. She was not injured and did not require hospital treatment.

Detective Inspector Gerard Frain, from Wandsworth borough, said: "The victim has very bravely recounted what has happened to her and is still coming to terms with the shock. We still need vital information to assist us in identifying the suspect. Were you at the Common at that time and did you see anyone acting suspiciously? Have you found any personal belongings? Did you take any photos or videos at the Common at that time? Please call us if you have any information."
Superintendent Steven Wallace, said: "Whilst this incident is under extensive investigation, I must stress that this type of crime is rare and completely isolated. Crime has no place on Wimbledon Common and together with our partner agencies we continue to ensure that our public spaces can be enjoyed by everyone safely and happily. As a reassurance to visitors at the park, officers are conducting more high visibility reassurance patrols, and crucially listening to and acting on any information which may come to light."
