Woman Raped in Wandle Park Near Water Treatment Works


Suspect arrested but police seek further information about the attack

An appeal for witnesses has been made following the alleged rape of a woman in Wandle Park in Colliers Wood.

At approximately 11pm on Saturday, 25 June, a woman says she was attacked by a man, near to the Water Treatment Works close to the exit to Boundary Road.

Police were alerted after the woman raised the alarm with passersby who called both police and the London Ambulance Service.

The man has been described as approximately 6ft tall, of medium build, with cropped dark hair. He was wearing a dark light-weight bomber jacket and dark straight leg jeans.

On Monday, 4 July, a 24-year-old man was arrested as part of the investigation. He was arrested on suspicion of rape and has been bailed to return on a date in August.

Detective Inspector Suzanne Jordan, from the Sexual Offences, Exploitation and Child Abuse Command, said: "I would like to hear from anyone who was in that area of Colliers Wood on the night of 25 June and who may have seen a man fitting this description. If you saw or heard anything suspicious around that time of the night, but have not yet spoken to police please get in touch."
