Police have issued a photo and name of a man they are looking for after a Wimbledon cyclist was almost hit by a motorist during a rush-hour road rage incident near Clapham North station.

Footage posted on YouTube (above) showed the car – a black Audi driven by the suspect, named as Shane Seymour – nearly hit Wimbledon IT consultant Dave Clifton after an argument with cyclists around 8am on Wednesday August 1.

The Met have now released the first photo of the suspect (below), which was taken from the head-cam of one of the cyclists involved the incident. They also revealed the Audi was stolen and had false number plates.

Mr Clifton had reported to police that he saw a man driving a black Audi A3, involved in a verbal altercation with two other cyclists ahead of him.

A short while later, the same car narrowly avoided hitting him near the railway bridge at Clapham North Station. He nearly knocked Mr Clifton into the road after he had overtaken another cyclist in the bus lane.

Following this, the Audi driver pulled up beside Mr Clifton at the next set of lights, where the driver began throwing objects at him from within his car.

When the lights turned green, the driver turned his car towards the cyclist and drove at him at speed before changing direction. He then turned onto Dorset Road, where eye witnesses said he nearly hit another cyclist before having an argument with them.

A crowd gathered and the driver turned his car around and drove onto the pavement. At that moment, an unmarked police car appeared and a police officer got out. The driver reversed at speed and disappeared down Dorset Road.

Detective Constable James Preston from Brixton CID, said: "We have been working hard to investigate this incident since first becoming aware of it on Wednesday August 1, and now have an image of our main suspect.

"We are naming this man as Shane Seymour. He is known to have links to South London and the Canterbury area.

"Have you seen him, or do you know where he is? Please contact us or Crimestoppers if so as we urgently need to speak to him in relation to this matter. If any members of the public spot him, do not approach him but call 999 straight away.

"It is only a matter of luck that no-one was seriously injured or even killed by this reckless driver. The sooner we can apprehend him, the better.

"We’d also still like to hear from anyone who witnessed this first-hand who have not yet come forward. Anything you may be able to remember and tell us could really help this investigation.

"I would like to thank the public in advance for their help with our enquiries."
