Consultation on town centre regeneration
Residents are being invited to have their say and take part in a consultation on the future of Morden town centre by Wednesday November 11.
Merton council will be developing a draft masterplan of the town centre and the responses from the consultation will help build and shape how this will look. This will take into account potential regeneration opportunities and look at supporting infrastructure such as school places and health facilities.
The masterplan is the next step in the town centre development following the 2008 consultation on the ‘Vision for Morden’.
In 2013 the council called for residents to take part in a public consultation on the Morden Station Planning Brief Site which was adopted in 2014. Transport for London (TfL) have included the Morden Underground station on its priority development sites and have submitted a joint bid with the council to the Mayor of London for part of the town centre to be a designated Housing Zone.
Merton Council’s cabinet member for environmental sustainability and regeneration, Councillor Andrew Judge, said: “We want as many residents as possible to get involved with how Morden will look in the future. With its great transport links and growing number of young people settling to live, there is a lot of potential to develop the town centre into a vibrant place for commuters, employees and residents.
