Merton Council Leader Pulls The Pints

Out-and-about in the borough

Merton council leader, Stephen Alambritis, has been pulling pints and serving food to local residents in the run-up to Christmas.

Councillor Alambritis (left), was behind the bar at Ganley's Irish pub in Morden on Thursday (December 23) and later will visit the Dog and Fox pub in Wimbledon Village.

On Wednesday he was plating up fish suppers at Adam's Fish Bar in Kingston Road, Wimbledon, following an earlier stint at Skipper's Fish Bar in Mitcham.

He said: "Getting out of the office and onto the streets talking to residents is so important for a council.  I am passionate about being Leader of Merton and believe that a major part of my job is to serve and meet the people who live and work in the borough.

"I want to literally serve our residents from some of the many pubs, restaurants and bars we’re lucky to have in Merton. By going into local businesses which are very much part of the local community and vital to sustaining a vibrant local economy, I can get a real feel of what businesses are doing in Merton and what residents and those who are employed in the borough think about the place where they live and work."
