Peter Walker's Marathon Challenge

Councillor doesn't forsake a pint for training!

Local Councillor Peter Walker is planning to run the London Marathon for charity, although he's aged 68 and has never run a marathon before!

Training is progressing jogging around Wimbledon Common.  However his regime allows him the odd pint as he passes the one or two of the excellent pubs around the Common, which he is a regular patron. Peter's wife is said to be dubious about this project.

The Merton Councillor is pictured today (November 29) outside the Rose & Crown in Wimbledon Village after a lunchtime three-mile run on the Common.

He is hoping his efforts will raise a "good sum" for Mencap, the charity which raises money for the 1 ½ million people in the UK who learning disabilities.

Peter's aim is not to complete the Marathon in a particular time, but to finish in one piece. He is promising to buy any supporters a pint at the end of the marathon which is scheduled for Saturday 13th April 2014.

People who would like to donate a sum to help Peter raise money for Mencap should go to his website at:  http://www.justgiving.com/Peter-Walker13.
