Making Merton A Dementia Friendly Community

Angela Rippon to attend 'Dementia Friendly Merton' launch event

Plans to make Merton a dementia friendly community by 2020 are being launched in the borough at a special event later this month.

‘Dementia Friendly Merton’ is being launched on Wednesday 22nd February at the Merton Dementia Hub, 67 Whitford Gardens, Mitcham.

Alzheimer’s Society Ambassador Angela Rippon will deliver the opening address, and council leader Stephen Alambritis will welcome the attendees.

The theme of the launch is ‘A day in the life of’ a person with dementia and the people who care for them.

One of the aims of the launch is to highlight the often simple things employers, employees, and residents can do to make living well with dementia possible.

Organisers want to encourage people to join Merton’s Dementia Action Alliance. There will also be an opportunity for ‘dementia friends’ training.
