Domestic Abuse: You Are Not Alone

Theme for Merton's campaign

The local theme for this year's 16 days against domestic abuse campaign is ‘You Are Not Alone’.

The campaign which runs from White Ribbon Day, 25 November, to December 10 will include an exhibition at Morden Civic Centre featuring artwork from local children's groups and information about local services available which victims of domestic abuse can benefit from.

Safer Merton, the partnership which includes Merton Council, the Police and Victim Support are encouraging people who suffer from domestic abuse to visit the One Stop Shop. The weekly drop in service is open on Mondays from 9.30am – 12.30pm at Morden Baptist Church.

The One Stop Shop is a confidential service that helps victims of domestic abuse by bringing together key agencies under one roof. Whether the client needs help with housing, wants to talk to Victim Support or get legal advice, they can do this all in confidence. Since the service launched in 2010 it has helped over 500 people.

Merton Council's Domestic Violence Champion and cabinet member for children’s services, Councillor Maxi Martin said: "Merton's partnership approach allows people who suffer from domestic abuse to use the One Stop Shop with confidence."

Cabinet member for community safety, engagement and equalities, Councillor Edith Macauley added: "Merton is a keen supporter of White Ribbon Day. A number of domestic abuse incidents go unreported so it is important people are aware that help is available all year round."
