Second Dundonald School Contractor Is Named

First phase set to be completed by March

East London-based builders Kind & Company have been named as the contractors who will carry out the final phase of the expansion work at Dundonald Primary School.

Merton Council say they are set to start work on the site in March, when the first phase external works have been completed.

Contractors will replace the old pavilion in the park with a new two-storey building which will include modern changing facilities and a hall to let for community groups and local sports clubs.

There will also be extra classrooms, including a new school hall, to accommodate 30 more children at Dundonald Primary School, making 210 places in total.

Kind and Company will also manage the final external works to complete three tennis courts, an enlarged children's public playground, and green gym.

The decision to allow building work to start comes after a lengthy judicial process, with plans opposed by the Protect Dundonald Rec (PDR) campaign.

Merton Council cabinet member for education Councillor Martin Whelton said: "This is a very exciting phase in our work to provide more children living in the area the opportunity to be educated at an outstanding school.

"We are facing unprecedented numbers of children living in Merton and we are committed to offering as many of them as possible the chance to benefit from an excellent education near to where they live.

"Last year we were only able to offer places to pupils living within 106 metres of Dundonald Primary School and when this work is completed, we will be able to offer this opportunity to many more local children. With more school places along with enhanced facilities for rec users and sports groups, they can also look forward to significantly better and more modern facilities."
