Decision Due On Emma Hamilton Pub Site

Plans to be discussed by councillors

Controversial plans for flats to be built on the site of the former Emma Hamilton pub (below) in Kingston Road, Wimbledon Chase, are set to be discussed by councillors.

The plans for 55 flats in a four-storey building have been amended following local objections that the original scale of the development was too dominating.

An original scheme proposed 57 flats and four commercial units in a five-storey development.

The latest plans are due to come before Merton Borough Council's planning department on Thursday (November 8). Planning officers have recommended they are approved.

Wimbledon Chase Residents' Association will be represented at the meeting. A spokesman said: "Although some people feel the building is still too high, we are unlikely to get a further reduction from four storeys to three. The realistic goal at this meeting is to try and push for some amendments to the plans."

Separately, plans have been resubmitted for a five-storey building at Wimbledon Chase which is essentially the infill between the Tesco store and the nearly completed block on the corner of Sandringham Avenue and Kingston Road.  Public consultation runs until Monday (November 5).  The application number is 12/P0544 and can be viewed via the Planning Explorer on Merton's council's website.
