Catching fish in once-polluted city streams

The first ever guide to fishing formerly-polluted urban streams, such as the Wandle, is about to be published.

Wandle Trust chairman Theo Pike has been writing "Trout in Dirty Places", about urban river restoration, fly-fishing and the charity sector, for the past two years.

He describes it as a snapshot of the state of urban river restoration in the UK at the start of the 21st century, as well as the first-ever guide to fishing these once-polluted city streams.

The book includes interviews with conservationists working on more than 50 urban rivers across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, plus more than 200 full-colour photos, and a foreword by Charles Rangeley-Wilson, President of the Wild Trout Trust.

The Wandle features prominently, as well as many other Trout in the Town projects.

To celebrate the launch of "Trout in Dirty Places", Theo has arranged a signing evening on Thursday April 5, from 7pm-10pm in the upper room of the William Morris pub in Merton Abbey Mills, where he will be signing and selling copies of his new book.

A donation from all sales goes to the Wild Trout Trust and the Grayling Society.
