Wimbledon Shoppers Help The Needy

Local foodbank is aid for those in crisis

Generous shoppers at the Sainsbury's store in Wimbledon town centre have donated 690 kilos of food to a local foodbank.

A team of volunteers encouraged shoppers to donate to the Wimbledon Foodbank, which provides emergency food parcels to help people through a short-term crisis.

Mayor of Merton, Councillor Gilli Lewis-Lavender, gave the event an extra boost by using the store's tanny to ask people to donate.

The local foodbank has been open in High Path, off Merantun Way, since October.
