Homes Plan For Former Art College Site

Residents object to impact of scheme

Plans for a block of flats on the site of the former Wimbledon College of Art Annexe in Wimbledon have been given the go-ahead.

The building on the corner of Palmerston Road and Kingston Road (below) will be demolished to make way for the new building.

The new development will house 24 flats, and will include underground car parking for 19 vehicles. It will be of varied height - from three to five storeys.

A number of local residents wrote to Merton council to object to the development, with concerns including lack of sufficient parking, the height of the scheme, loss of privacy and the impact on the local area during building work.

But the plans, submitted by The University of Arts, London, were approved by the borough council's planning committee.
