Community Pays Tribute After Death Of Leopold Road Shopkeeper

Fundraising campaign is launched towards his funeral costs

The community around the Leopold Road parade of shops in Wimbledon has rallied around the family of popular shopkeeper, Reggie, who died last month.

Reggie (pictured above) was one of three brothers running the Newport Food and Wine off-licence. He mostly worked on the late afternoon and nightshift.

Following his death, Ester Shehu has started a fundraising campaign towards the cost of his funeral and a memorial for him.

She said on the online appeal: "He knew everyone by name, he always asked how you and your family were. He knew what you were going to buy as soon as you entered the shop. It was impossible to 'pop-in' to the shop, as you always knew you would be there chatting for 10 minutes! He made the world a better place.

"We are fundraising to support his family cover the cost of the funeral and hold a memorial fit for someone who had served the community for many years and who had a huge impact on everyone's life. RIP Reggie (The Wimbledon Legend)."
