Santa Help Raise Nearly £9,000 For Local Charity

Merton Music Foundation to benefit

Santa's Winter Wonderland grotto at Wimbledon's Centre Court Shopping Centre has raised £8,905 for the Merton Music Foundation.

The cash was raised for the Centre's nominated charity, thanks to the generosity of mums and dads paying a small fee for their children to meet Santa in his grotto.

The main aim of Merton Music Foundation is to provide a variety of musical tuition, ensemble opportunities and creative activities for Merton’s Primary, Secondary and Special schools and young people across the borough.

Centre Court Shopping Centre elected MMF as their nominated Charity in September 2010 and since then has worked alongside the charity in raising much needed funds through Charity Collections, Christmas Card Competition, and MMF performing in the Centre.

Samantha Brown, Marketing Manager at Centre Court, said: "We are absolutely delighted with the amount of money that has been raised, this will support instrumental lessons and instrument hire for children who are from low-income families and also the big project 'With One Voice', a large-scale song writing and choral project involving 1,500 pupils from Merton primary and secondary schools held in March 2011 at the Royal Albert Hall".

John Mander, Chief Executive of MMF, said: "This was a fantastic opportunity to raise much needed funds to support the charitable work of Merton Music Foundation during 2011. The monies raised by Centre Court Shopping Centre have made a significant contribution to our fund raising efforts through the Big Give, which has already raised over £12,000 this year for MMF."
