Gorilla Swings Back Into Wimbledon's Polka Theatre

Hit show makes return for the summer holidays

Polka's hit show Gorilla will be swinging back into Polka Theatre for the summer holidays from 17 July – 16 August.

Based on the award-winning picture book by former Children's Laureate Anthony Browne, Polka are excited to bring Rachel Barnett's endearing and magical adaptation back to the stage with music by Julian Butler.

It's the night before Hannah's birthday and something amazing is about to happen. When her toy gorilla comes to life dressed in her father’s hat and coat, they embark on a thrilling moonlit adventure to fantastical landscapes that will delight and amaze the young audience.

The story of Hannah, her father and a very cuddly gorilla is told through beautiful puppetry, songs and a charming set that bring alive the distinct visual flair of Browne’s illustrations.

Following a sell-out run in Polka’s Adventure Theatre, this enchanting show for ages 4 – 7 will now be performed in the 300 seat Main Theatre.

Roman Stefanski, Associate Director of Polka Theatre and Director of Gorilla, said: "After the sell- out success of Gorilla in the Adventure Theatre it is a delight to re-produce this warm hearted show in the Main Theatre and welcome our younger audience to a larger staging of the play.  Come and enjoy how we make the two friends fly through the air on their visit to the zoo, the cinema and the restaurant! Hope you like the bananas!"
