Discussion and afternoon tea event
Merton Council in partnership with the borough's Faith and Belief Forum will host a discussion about how faith is covered in the media and an afternoon tea event during Interfaith Week, November 16 - 22.
The discussion, ‘Faith in the Media’ takes place on Tuesday (November 17)from 5.30pm – 8pm in the Civic Centre council chamber, Morden.
Guest speakers include Dr Chris Allen from the University of Birmingham and Helen Freeman, Principal Rabbi from West London Synagogue with the council’s chief executive Ged Curran chairing proceedings.
On Saturday November 21 residents are invited to an afternoon of tea and treats from across the globe at the Morden Islamic Community Centre. The event from 2pm – 4pm organised by the Muslim Women of Merton will give attendees the opportunity to try a variety of teas from Moroccan mint and spiced Pakistani chai, to Chinese green and traditional English.
Local faith groups will also be holding a number of story telling and educational events in Merton Libraries.
Interfaith Week is held in the third week of November to highlight the good work of local faith groups and celebrate diversity in communities.
Merton’s Cabinet Member for community safety, engagement and equalities, Councillor Edith Macauley, said: "Inter faith Week is time for us to celebrate the different backgrounds, cultures and beliefs that make up this borough. We are lucky to have residents from across the globe living in Merton and during Inter faith Week these events are the perfect opportunity to socialise and learn more about other faiths."
