Local Primary School Is Doubled In Size


"We Love Joseph Hood" is the message

A Wimbledon Chase primary school has doubled in size after a new £4.8 million block was opened.

Joseph Hood school in Whatley Avenue will now have room for 420 pupils following the opening of the two-storey extension comprising 12 classrooms with toilet blocks and group spaces, a main hall, a dining hall and a kitchen.

The opening of the new school building was dubbed the "We Love Joseph Hood" ceremony and included an eco-friendly balloon release and ribbon cutting.

Past and present pupils, teachers, members of the local community, the Mayor of Merton Councillor David Williams and cabinet member for education Councillor Martin Whelton were in attendance.



Mayor of Merton Councillor David Williams said: "The atmosphere at the opening ceremony was reflected in its name; 'We Love Joseph Hood'. The new school building is a credit to everyone who was involved in its creation, a big congratulations to all!"

Headteacher at Joseph Hood Primary School, Anita Saville said: "Our opening ceremony was a great success and I'm so pleased at how our new school building has turned out. I'd like to thank everybody involved in getting our new building up and running and for helping to make the opening ceremony an occasion to remember at Joseph Hood."
