June Whitfield Presents Photo Prizes

June puts winners in the frame

Winning photographers had an absolutely fabulous prize-giving when screen legend June Whitfield did the honours in Wimbledon.

Victorious entrants in Volunteer Centre Merton's photography competition met June and received prizes including a camera, printer and digital photo frame donated by sponsors Centre Court Shopping Centre and the Sony Centre.

The actress and Wimbledon resident, famous for roles including Ab Fab and Terry and June, presented awards to help celebrate the crucial part volunteers can play in a wide range of organisations.

First place was awarded to Reece Edwards, aged 18, a student at Cricket Green School, for his picture of volunteering at Mencap Café in The Broadway, Wimbledon. His winning photo is below on the right.

June (pictured above right with the winners) congratulated everyone who entered and applauded VCM for launching the competition.

Centre court marketing manager Samantha Brown said: "It was wonderful to see the stunning skills on display in the competition which was aimed at highlighting different aspects of volunteering. Meeting June was also the icing on the cake."

Competition organiser, Phillip Barrow, said he was delighted to have welcomed June to the prize-giving.

He said: "We'd like to say a huge thank you to June – we know what a busy lady she is.

"This is the biggest promotion VCM has undertaken in recent years and we’re determined to put the spotlight on Merton’s volunteers and encourage others to get involved.

"Thank you also to everyone who entered, there was a brilliant response and it was a very tough job deciding on the ultimate winners as the standard was so high."
