Landmark For Merton Volunteers

Celebration for 10,000th volunteer

The Volunteer Centre Merton (VCM) celebrated an important milestone when it celebrated its 10,000th volunteer.

Nikke Searle, from Colliers Wood, received a certificate from Merton's Deputy Mayor, Margaret Brierly, to mark the occasion.

Nikki had been referred to VCM's Supported Youth Volunteering Programme by The Merton Employment Team with whom VCM has a close working relationship.

She wanted a stepping stone to return to work and decided that administation was a good option.

Because Nickki had no experience in admin, the Employment Team felt VCM's Supported Youth Volunteering Programme would be an ideal way of helping Nikki to gain the skills, confidence and experience she needed.

VCM introduced Nikki to Merton Mencap, who created an admin post for her. Nikki receives ongoing support from VCM and is said to be going from strength to strength in her new role, a pathway to work.
